Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta and Dun Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council are hosting a welcome home for Green Dragon on Sunday 12 July at 1400.

Ireland’s entry in the Volvo Ocean Race, Green Dragon finishes the race in St Petersburg this weekend and will be on its way to Ireland for a big Irish homecoming. REGATTA TV DOCUMENTARY - WED 8TH JULY 20:30
There's a chance to see the 2007 TV documentary 'The Regatta' again on Setanta sports channel. The programme, based around the Volvo Dun Laoghaire regatta 2007, captures the action on Dublin Bay, features the 500 boats afloat and interviews many local sailors. MINISTER MARY HANAFIN LAUNCHES THE 2009 REGATTA

Dun Laoghaire's emergence as an Irish sea yacht racing venue continued last night when Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Mary Hanafin TD, launched the Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta (VDLR) 2009 at the Allianz Boat Show, running at the RDS Simmonscourt until Sunday. NEW COURSE FORMAT FOR 2009

Using the feedback from 2007 and input from the classes - a new simplified course format has been designed to give more variation to the sailors and flexibility to the Race Officers for the 2009 Regatta.

The key changes being:

Introduction of a Sutton/Howth day for larger keelboats

Reduction in number of courses in centre of bay & the removal of Outer Course area for big boats

Flexibility for Race Officers to set fixed mark courses

It is our intention to build on the success achieved during the 2005 and 2007 Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regattas. " Already we are confident that we wil attract many more visiting boats to Dun Laoghaire and will have increased involvement from the Town and its numberous local organisations", said Philip Smith, Chairman VDLR.
