The 8th Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta got underway today, Thursday 11th July. The biennial four-day series is IrelandÕs biggest sailing event as the four waterfront yacht clubs have come together for this sailing extravaganza; Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club, National Yacht Club, Royal Irish Yacht Club and Royal St. George Yacht Club. Over 2,500 sailors have descended on the waterfront as 500 boats across 34 classes compete out on Dublin Bay. The Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta takes place until Sunday 14th July. It was business as usual for John Maybury’s J/109 Joker II in this afternoon’s opening race of the 2019 Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta (VDLR) on Dublin Bay.

Some of the crews from 'Percy' and 'Kon Tiki' out of Whitehaven, along with cockatiel 'Percy' (the official mascott for their crews), attending the official civic reception to mark Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta 2019 in the assembley room of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Town Hall on Wednesday 10th July. This eigth itteration of the event promises to be the second biggest sailing event in Northern Europe this year, and is attracting a large visiting entry from around the Irish Sea and further afield.

VDLR Civic Reception 2019

Competitors, visitors, and volunteers were warmly welcomed to Dún Laoghaire Town last night by An Cathaoirleach Cllr Shay Brennan at the official Civic Reception in Dún Laoghaire Town Hall.
