Despite good racing conditions inside Dublin Bay yesterday, light winds frustrated many of the classes competing in the long coastal course of the Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta, which was shortened by late afternoon off Bray.
Glass-like conditions outside Dublin Bay made for a testing coastal course on the second day of racing for the Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta.
As the second half of the Volvo Dún LAoghaire Regatta awaits its start later this morning, organisers opted to postpone the start of racing by one hour, apparently due to the calm wind forecast.

As Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta 2017 reaches its halfway stage, overall leaderboards are shaping up across 35 racing classes. The so far light wind seventh edition of Ireland’s biggest sailing event has produced some impressive performances on the water where in some classes leaders are counting straight wins after two full days of racing.

Time of First Warning Signal – On Saturday 8th July, the time of the first warning signal for all classes will be one hour later than stated in
the sailing instructions.

The scene at the port formerly known as Kingstown yesterday afternoon could easily have been an early etching of the first sailing regatta at the 200-year old harbour: traditional classic and modern boats racing side by side with the iconic East Pier lighthouse as the backdrop.
